| Why Rwanda? |
|
In the spring of 1994, Rwanda experienced one of the largest massacres of human life in modern history. In 100 days, a strategically planned genocide killed more than one million people. The horrific killings decimated the Rwandan population. Neighbors killed neighbors. Husbands turned on wives. Wives turned on husbands. Friends became enemies. Everyone was impacted. Entire families were lost. And a nation was left in ruin. Rwanda has made significant progress from the devastation it experienced through the genocide, yet it remains an underdeveloped and hurting nation. There is great need for reconciliation, healing, and renewal. Many children have lost parents to genocide, AIDS, and to prison for atrocities related to the genocide. Many children are unable to attend school and have little to do day to day. These children need love, mentorship, and to know that they are capable of making an impact in the world.
