Play For Hope got a brief shoutout in the Fall 2009 G4T Ink! magazine as well as in the Proclaim! Fall 2009 magazine in regards to our involvement in the Kigali Hope Festival.  Apparently people who like exclamation marks also like Play For Hope.   Thanks to Jeff Pieper and Jodi Carlson for mentioning us in their features.

I apologize for the lack of blogs in regards to Play For Hope.  We are still extremely active and are planning next years events in Rwanda.  We have been somewhat stalled by paperwork paperwork and more paperwork.  We are in the process of filing for our incorporation and then our 501c3 status.  It is a bit long and tedious but thankfully we have some great lawyers who are donating their time to us.  I have been meeting a lot of great people in Arkansas who are already invested in Rwanda or are interested in Play For Hope as well as many Rwandans who are in America on a Presidential Scholarship.  They play on a soccer team in Arkansas and it has been a lot of fun to talk to them about Rwanda and their potential involvement this summer with us as well.  I am hoping to run trips this summer for soccer coaches, basketball coaches, and strength and conditioning coaches.  We will see how that goes.  We are also preparing to make a large push to open offices in Rwanda and hire a staff.  We have big, big dreams that every day seem more attainable.  I plan on returning to Rwanda in the next few months to set up organizational structure and all of the next summer as well as make many partnerships.  I will post more details soon.

Palau Letter PDF   E-mail

Following is a letter written by the Luis Palau Association in regards to Play For Hope.  I cannot tell you how often I feel unworthy to have the incredible opportunity to do the work that we do.  We are truly blessed.

On behalf of the Luis Palau Association it is my privilege to endorse the ministry of Brian Beckman and Play for Hope.  As I have the opportunity to interact with hundreds of Christian leaders each year my experience with Brian indicates he has a clear vision, dedicated heart and a great love for helping others.

The Play for Hope ministry was the vision of Brian Beckman.  His willingness to partner with the Luis Palau Association and Hope Rwanda demonstrate a mature understanding of working with others to further one’s own goals.  Brian consistently sought out our counsel and advice and was a most gracious and positive partner.  The Play for Hope team demonstrated a great commitment to their ministry with the children of Rwanda.  I was personally impressed and also blessed to see them in action on several occasions in Kigali, Rwanda.  I was so pleased at their personal commitments to teach and serve the children in Rwanda through the operations of sports clinics and tournaments.

Play for Hope was a full partner with the Andrew Palau Team in presenting the Hope Festival to the city of Kigali.  With the full support of the City officials and over 300 churches Play for Hope conducted a two day tournament preceding the Hope Festival with Andrew Palau and during the festival provided a strategic ministry to over 6000 children through soccer clinics.

Play for Hope was successful in identifying at least 14 key adult leaders in Kigali to carry on the ministry of Play for Hope.  They conduct 2  to 3 clinics each day for 8 weeks throughout the city of Kigali.  They produced a successful age division tournament in the Amahoro National Stadium in conjunction with the Hope Festival.  They provided adult supervised sports drills for 3000 children each day for two days of the Hope Festival with Andrew Palau in the Amahoro Stadium.

Brian and his team are to be honored and commended for there love and service to the children of Kigali, Rwanda.  I am very excited to report on their work and highly recommend them to any and all who would support their work in any way possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Timothy L. Robnett

Director Luis Palau’s Next Generation Alliance

The Play For Hope Vision PDF   E-mail

I wanted to release to everyone what the future of Play For Hope will look like.  Our vision is for long term, sustainable sports growth that brings holistic ministry to the youth of Rwanda and provides children with professional level coaching. Two major components of our vision are as follows:

 Rehabilitation of Street Kids

Rwanda Orphans Nonprofits

A Street Kid In His "Home" - A Drainage Pipe

Sports provide a vehicle to teach children life lessons and reintegrate them into society.  Play For Hope is dedicated to creating a child-sponsoring program to give rehabilitated street children the opportunity to go to school or receive vocational training.  We believe that sports will help children get off the streets and into a caring relationship with a trained coach.  We desire to proide homes for children in our sports program so that they no
longer have to live on the streets.

The Play For Hope Coaching Network

Rwanda Orphans Charities

It is our dream to train Rwandan soccer and basketball coaches to  use sports to love “the least of these.”  Coaches will learn sporting skills, discipleship skills, and ministry tools to reach the hurting youth of Rwanda.  Coaches will be given equipment to serve the communities in which they live.  Coaches will be held accountable to demonstrate that they are using skills to demonstrate love rather than for personal gain.  We will bring in professional coaches, trainers, athletes, and sports medical professionals so that coaches will learn cutting edge techniques.  We want to transform Rwanda’s current sports programs to professional caliber trainings.
